Corn's Expensive ... What Can We Use in Its Place?

Many cattle feeders are looking for ingredients to substitute for expensive corn in the diet.  When properly supplemented and fed within certain limits, the following ingredients can be fed as corn substitutes:

Corn Gluten Feed (Wet & Dry Forms):
•    Replace up to 8 lb of corn with 7 to 8 lb of dry or 15 to 16 lb of wet corn gluten feed per head.
•    Pay no more for wet corn gluten feed than 50% of the current ton price of corn.
•    Pay no more for dry corn gluten feed than 95% of the current ton price of corn.
•    Supplement diets with either Kent Gluten Aide™ (meal) or Kent Co-Product Balancer 667R.

Wheat Middlings (Midds):
•    Replace 2 to 3 lb of corn per head in the finishing diet.
•    Pay no more for midds than 90% of the current ton price of corn
•    Finishing diets with midds should contain the appropriate Kent protein supplement.

Soy Hulls:
•    Can replace 2 to 3 lb of corn in finishing diets.  It has been suggested soy hulls can replace all of the corn in high-roughage, growing diets.
•    Pay no more for soy hulls than 85% of the current ton price of corn.
•    Supplement diets with the appropriate Kent protein supplement.
